Basketball Recap: Chinle Makes It Five in a Row at Home

Chinle's tournament run continued when they took on Navajo Prep on Thursday. The Chinle Wildcats snuck past the Navajo Prep Eagles with a 43-37 victory. The win was all the more spectacular given the Wildcats' disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 116th in Arizona, while the Eagles are ranked 35th in New Mexico).

Chinle's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-4. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.8 points per game. As for Navajo Prep, with the loss, they broke their 26-game winning streak and moved their record to 6-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Chinle will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Window Rock at 7:30 p.m. on January 4, 2025. Navajo Prep will wrap up 2024 with a road trip to face off against St. Pius X at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday.
