Basketball Game Preview: Lamar Silver Foxes vs. Abbeville Panthers

The Lamar Silver Foxes will venture away from home to challenge the Abbeville Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Last Friday, Lamar ended up a good deal behind Lee Central and lost 74-56.

Lamar might have lost, but man, Lamont Williams was a machine: he dropped a double-double with 24 points and 12 rebounds. Williams' evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of NyShaun 'Shaun' Quillen, who posted six points in addition to six boards and four steals.

Even though they lost, Lamar smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 24 consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Abbeville waltzed into their game on Friday with 16 straight wins... but they left with 17. They came out on top against the Chiefs by a score of 62-54.

Lamar better keep an eye on Jaden Baylor. He was instrumental in Abbeville's win, going 9-for-15 on his way to 26 points along with six rebounds and three blocks. That's the most points Baylor has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Justin Rollinson, who scored 12 points in addition to eight assists and three steals.

Lamar has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests, which has put a noticeable dent in their 10-16 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.3 points over those games. As for Abbeville, their victory was their ninth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 19-2.

Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Lamar has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 29.7 boards per game. However, it's not like Abbeville struggles in that department as they've been averaging 38.7 rebounds.
