Baseball Recap: Virginia City Drops Season-High Score on Coleville

Virginia City made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Coleville, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Virginia City put the hurt on Coleville with a sharp 15-5 win on Saturday. The Muckers' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Jackson McGraw was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out 11 batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off two hits. Those 11 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

In other batting news, Virginia City let Angel Hipolito and Tyler Battaglia run wild. Hipolito scored three runs and stole three bases while going 3-for-4, while Battaglia scored two runs and stole four bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases Battaglia has posted since back in March of 2024. Patrick Combs also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Virginia City always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .558. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Virginia City's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-6. As for Coleville, their loss was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-5.
