Softball Game Preview: West Orange Warriors vs. Foundation Academy Lions

The West Orange Warriors are taking a road trip to take on the Foundation Academy Lions at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Last Monday, West Orange got the win against Lake Buena Vista by a conclusive 14-2. The victory continues a trend for the Warriors in their matchups with the Vipers: they've now won three in a row.

Cynthia Cummings was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched. Those six strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cali Flowers, who went 1-for-2 with four RBI, one run, and one double. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Ilaria Forte was another key player, scoring three runs while going 1-for-4.

Meanwhile, Foundation Academy entered their tilt with Lake Minneola on Tuesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They had just enough and edged out the Hawks 5-3.

Foundation Academy saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sophia Smith, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4. Another was Elizabeth Ozim, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-4.

West Orange picked up their first road win, bumping their record up to 3-10. As for Foundation Academy, their record is now 9-4.

Everything went West Orange's way against Foundation Academy in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, as West Orange made off with an 11-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Warriors since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
