Baseball Recap: Winslow Triumphs

Winslow took a ten-run loss the last time they faced off against Bourgade Catholic, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Bulldogs narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Golden Eagles 12-11. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Bulldogs considering their one-run performance the contest before.

Aiden Martinez was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Winslow is 2-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 1-15 otherwise. Martinez was even better at the plate, going 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and one triple. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2025.

In other batting news, James Mendoza was excellent, going 2-for-4 with three runs, one double, and one RBI. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ehren Leonard, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Winslow kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Winslow's win bumped their record up to 3-16. As for Bourgade Catholic, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 10-9.

Looking ahead, Winslow will head out to face off against Show Low at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Bourgade Catholic, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Gilbert Christian at 3:45 p.m. on Friday.
