Softball Recap: Puckett Drops Season-High Score on Amite County

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Puckett had no problem doing just that on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 24-0 margin over the Amite County Trojans. The Wolves' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Lila Murphy made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.

In other batting news, Brooke Shivers was incredible, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with four stolen bases and two runs. Those four stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Leighton Goodwin was another key player, earning three runs and four stolen bases.

Puckett is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-7-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.8 runs over those games. As for Amite County, they are on a 19-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-20.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Puckett beat the Trojans by a score of 21-0 later that day.
