Basketball Recap: Excel Christian Academy Takes a Loss

Excel Christian Academy was the 78-54 winner over Mercy Prep Academy when they last played one another back in February, but their luck changed this time around. The Excel Christian Academy Eagles fell just short of the Mercy Prep Academy Royals by a score of 72-69 on Friday. The Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Mercy Prep Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Dylan Baker, who posted 12 points in addition to six boards and five assists. Baker continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Eli Lawson, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds.

Excel Christian Academy's loss dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Mercy Prep Academy, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 11-3.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Excel Christian Academy will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Christian Home Educators at 7:30 p.m. on January 7, 2025. Mercy Prep Academy will also get a bit of a break before their next matchup: they'll face off against Excel Christian Academy on January 10, 2025.
