Softball Game Preview: Mendon Hornets vs. Colon Magi

Mendon has gone 9-1 against Colon recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Hornets will welcome the Magi at 5:00 p.m. Mendon will come into the contest with an undefeated record on the line.

Colon's hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Thursday: Mendon hadn't allowed a single run the last three times they've hit the field. The Hornets' pitcher stepped up to hand Centreville a 4-0 shutout on Wednesday. The four-run effort marked the Hornets' lowest-scoring game of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Not much got past Rowan Allen, who gave up just a hit and racked up 13 Ks to keep Centreville off the board. Allen has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Cienna Nightingale, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Taya Bingaman, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

While Colon didn't have the best season last year (they finished 4-8-1), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They were the clear victors by a 19-0 margin over Bellevue on Monday. The result was nothing new for the Magi, who have now won five matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

Colon's win bumped their record up to 7-1. As for Mendon, their victory bumped their record up to 6-0.

Everything went Mendon's way against Colon in their previous meeting back in May of 2025, as Mendon made off with a 15-0 win. Will the Hornets repeat their success, or do the Magi have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
