Baseball Recap: Chapin Beats Mid-Carolina for Their Fourth Straight Victory

Chapin had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Saturday. They never let the Mid-Carolina Rebels get on the board and left with a 2-0 win. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Eagles have posted since March 18th.

Not much got past Mac Berry, who gave up just five hits and racked up 11 Ks to keep Mid-Carolina off the board. Those 11 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for Berry.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Felix Flecha-Ruiz, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three doubles and two runs. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ty Harper, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Chapin pushed their record up to 12-5 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Mid-Carolina, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-6.

Chapin and Mid-Carolina should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps South Carolina Rankings. The Eagles (ranked sixth) will meet Brookland-Cayce (ranked 104th) at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Mid-Carolina will square off against White Knoll at 11:15 a.m. on Monday with a big rank advantage (50 vs. 132).
