Baseball Recap: Sunlake's Win on Tuesday Extends Winning Streak to Four

Sunlake waltzed into their game on Tuesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They never let the Cypress Creek Coyotes get on the board and left with a 7-0 win. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 1-0 back in February.

Cameron Nunez looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one walk any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Lucas Zarlenga, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. He has become a key player for Sunlake: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 6-8 otherwise. Mario Perez was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Sunlake pushed their record up to 11-8 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs on average over those games. As for Cypress Creek, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-8.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sunlake will take on Springstead at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Cypress Creek, they will head out to take on Wesley Chapel at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Coyotes 4, the Wildcats 3) so any runs scored will be well earned.
