Softball Recap: Marion Giants vs. Huntington North Vikings

Marion had lost six straight at home, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 5-11 to make it seven. They fell 13-10 to the Huntington North Vikings. If the Giants were looking for revenge after losing 15-0 to the Vikings when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Zionna Cole and Jasmine Weaver stepped up to the plate in a big way. Cole went 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double, while Weaver went 2-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Ramaya Jordan also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.

Huntington North's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-13. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

On Huntington North's side, Britian Helvie looked comfortable as she struck out seven batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. Those seven strikeouts gave Helvie a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Serenidy Mitchem was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, four runs, and one triple. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kayda Newman, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Marion has already played their next game, an 11-1 defeat against Jay County on the 10th. As for Huntington North, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 10-0 loss against Leo on the 12th.
