Basketball Recap: Oxford Has No Trouble Against Caldwell

Oxford won the last time they faced Caldwell and things went their way on Thursday too. The Oxford Wildcats put the hurt on the Caldwell Bluejays with a sharp 49-24 victory. That 25 point margin sets a new team best for the Wildcats this season.

Yasmin Gardea went supernova for Oxford, going 10-for-22 on her way to 25 points in addition to six rebounds and six steals. Gardea has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last five times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Makhila Maupin, who dropped a double-double with ten points and 11 boards.

Oxford was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Caldwell only eight assists.

Caldwell's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ella Risley, who posted 12 points. That was a full 50% of Caldwell's points, marking the seventh time in a row Risley has put up more than a third of the team's points.

Oxford's record is now 7-13. As for Caldwell, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-16.

Oxford didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 36-30 defeat against Central on the 21st. Caldwell has also already played their next game (against Sedan), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
