Servite is preparing for their first league matchup of the season on Friday. They will be playing in front of their home fans against the Santa Margarita Eagles at 7:00 p.m. Servite is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games.
On Friday, Servite took their game with ease, bagging a 49-8 win over St. Paul. The result was nothing new for the Friars, who have now won three matchups by 21 points or more so far this season.
Servite's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jorden Wells, who rushed for 95 yards and two scores. Wells got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run that went for an incredible 77 yards. Benjamin Harris was another key receiver, picking up 127 receiving yards and three touchdowns.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Servite was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 210 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 210 rushing yards in four consecutive contests.
Servite didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Isaiah Danns and Jace Wells. Brando Mosqueda was another major factor on D, making eight total tackles (2.0 for loss) and defending two passes.
Meanwhile, Santa Margarita is ranked highly in their home state and on Saturday they took on another highly ranked team in the form of Bishop Gorman. The game between the Eagles and the Gaels didn't end well, with the Eagles falling 14-0. The Eagles were red-hot offensively heading into the matchup (they scored no less than 31 points in the three contests prior), but the Gaels' defense proved too tough.
Even if they lost, Santa Margarita's defense still kept up the pressure with three sacks. In that department, Dash Fifita was the leader with two.
The loss snapped Santa Margarita's winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 3-2 record. As for Servite, their victory bumped their record up to 4-1.
