Football Recap: Hodgson Vo-Tech Takes Down Ranked Sussex Central

Hodgson Vo-Tech faced Sussex Central in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Eagles walked away with a 44-34 win over the Golden Knights. This was payback for the Eagles, who suffered a 54-34 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Hodgson Vo-Tech was led to victory by Kevin Browning and Keytwan Sabur. Browning rushed for 85 yards and three touchdowns, while Sabur gained 210 total yards and a touchdown. The dominant performance also gave Browning a new career-high in passer rating (113.1).

Despite the loss, Sussex Central saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Hayden Mahammitt rushed for 74 yards and a pair of scores, and also picked up 50 receiving yards and one TD. Mahammitt showed off some serious burst, cutting through the defense on one rush that went for 61 yards.

The victory made it two in a row for Hodgson Vo-Tech and bumps their season record up to 2-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 26.0 points over those games. As for Sussex Central, their defeat was their first of the season and also makes their record 2-1.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hodgson Vo-Tech will venture away from home to face off against Cape Henlopen at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Sussex Central, they will head out to square off against Salesianum at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
