Basketball Recap: Milton Mccray's Big Game Can't Quite Lead C.A. Johnson over South Pointe

C.A. Johnson saw some tournament action on Sunday. They lost 71-51 to the South Pointe Stallions. While losing is never fun, the Hornets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 145th, while the Stallions are ranked 43rd).

C.A. Johnson lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Milton McCray, who went 9 of 15 on his way to 28 points in addition to five boards and three blocks. McCray has been hot for a while, having posted two or more blocks the last ten times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Aiassiac Germany, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 12 boards.

Ry'Darius Hill was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 28 points and 19 boards for South Pointe. The dominant performance gave Hill a new career-high in rebounds. Another player making a difference was Treven Raymon, who posted 16 points and three steals.

C.A. Johnson has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-8 record this season. As for South Pointe, their victory bumped their record up to 8-4.

C.A. Johnson didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 70-58 win against Lamar on the 7th. As for South Pointe, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 50-40 victory against A.C. Flora on the 3rd.
