Basketball Recap: Oneida Falls Despite Big Games from Ben Gilbert and Grady Keeton

Oneida was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They took a 60-50 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Campbell County Cougars. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Indians this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 74-46 back in December of 2024.

Despite the defeat, Oneida had strong showings from Grady Keeton, who posted 19 points and three steals, and Ben Gilbert, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 13 rebounds. Oneida is 5-2 when Gilbert posts ten or more boards, but 4-11 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Jesse Zachary, who put up five points and six rebounds.

Even though they lost, Oneida smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Campbell County only pulled down one offensive board.

Campbell County's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Gavin Cox, who went 6 for 9 to rack up 18 points and five boards. The dominant performance also gave Cox a new career-high in three-point shooting accuracy (80%). Will Croley was another key player, going 5 of 7 on his way to 13 points in addition to seven assists and five rebounds.

Oneida's loss dropped their record down to 9-13. As for Campbell County, their record now sits at 13-11.

Oneida has already played their next matchup, a 74-44 defeat against Gatlinburg-Pittman on the 7th. As for Campbell County, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 59-48 loss against Heritage on the 7th.
