Baseball Recap: Tuesday's Win Is St. Joseph Regional's Ninth in Last Ten Outings

While St. Joseph Regional's victory against Bergen Catholic wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Green Knights won by a run and slipped past the Crusaders 6-5. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 14-4 on Monday.

Danny Alvarez looked comfortable as he pitched 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Brady Shust and Lorenzo Zeccardi did most of the damage at the plate: Shust went 2-for-4 with one triple and two RBI, while Zeccardi went 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That triple marked the first that Shust has hit this season.

St. Joseph Regional is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 22-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games. As for Bergen Catholic, their loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 15-7.

St. Joseph Regional and Bergen Catholic should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps New Jersey Rankings. The Green Knights will square off against Tenafly at 4:15 p.m. on Monday with a big rank advantage (31 vs. 329). Meanwhile, Bergen Catholic (ranked eighth) will meet Northern Highlands (ranked 108th) at 4:15 p.m. on Friday.
