Cuero had won eight straight at home dating back to last season, but on Friday they bumped up to 9-1 to make it nine. They put the hurt on the Robstown Cottonpickers with a sharp 41-20 win. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as the Gobblers just coasted through the last quarter.

A big part of Cuero's victory came down to the chemistry between Jayce Guajardo and his top target Walker Dietze. Guajardo threw for 159 yards and two TDs while Dietze picked up 48 receiving yards and a pair of scores. The dominant performance also gave Guajardo a new career-high in rushing yards (23).

Cuero was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 232 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Robstown only rushed for 95.

As for Robstown, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-4 record this season. While losing is never fun, they can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 814th, while Cuero is ranked 109th).

Trevin Crowley and Miles Rodriguez certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Crowley threw for 214 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 10.7 yards per attempt, while Rodriguez picked up 103 receiving yards and a pair of scores. Crowley's passing game has become a key predictor of Robstown's success: the team is 4-1 when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 2-3 otherwise.

Looking ahead, Cuero will take on La Feria at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Robstown does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
