Baseball Game Preview: Gateway Panthers vs. Wekiva Mustangs

The Gateway Panthers will take on the Wekiva Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Gateway will be strutting in after a victory while Wekiva will be coming in after a loss.

Gateway is headed into the match having just posted their biggest win since February 27, 2024 on Thursday. They were the clear victor by an 11-1 margin over Poinciana.

Diego Vazqueztell made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in strikeouts. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Ian Colon was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI. Kaleb Bermudez was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-4.

Meanwhile, Wekiva suffered their closest defeat since April 5, 2024 on Monday. They fell just short of Legacy Charter by a score of 8-6. The Mustangs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Brady Reinert made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored three runs and stole four bases while going 3-for-4.

Gateway's victory ended a four-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 1-1. As for Wekiva, their loss dropped their record down to 1-3.

Gateway came out on top in a nail-biter against Wekiva in their previous matchup back in April of 2022, sneaking past 5-4. Does Gateway have another victory up their sleeve, or will Wekiva turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
