After having lost a blowout in their previous game against East Clarendon, Sumter was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They walked away with a 13-9 victory over the Westwood Redhawks. The Gamecocks haven't had any issues with the Redhawks recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Ivy King made a splash no matter where she played. She pitched six innings while giving up just two earned (and seven unearned) runs off eight hits. King was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other pitching news, Lillie Ivey looked comfortable as she pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Sumter got a massive performance out of Remy Shauf, who went 3-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and two doubles. That's the most stolen bases Shauf has posted since back in April of 2025. McKenzi Pearson also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.
Sumter lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Sumter's record now sits at 11-12. As for Westwood, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last eight matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 10-11 record this season.
Sumter does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Westwood, they will challenge Dutch Fork at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. The Silver Foxes have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 11.75 runs per game on average), something the Redhawks will no doubt try to take advantage of.
