Basketball Recap: Southwestern Heights Takes a Loss

On Tuesday, the Southwestern Heights Mustangs were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 61-60 to the Spearville Lancers. The Mustangs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Ian Melendez was his usual excellent self, going 11 of 21 on his way to 31 points and five boards for Spearville. The matchup was Melendez's fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Layson Wheaton, who posted nine points in addition to eight boards and three steals.

Southwestern Heights' loss dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Spearville, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Southwestern Heights will host Ulysses at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Spearville, they will welcome Pawnee Heights at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Spearville is facing Pawnee Heights at the right time seeing as Pawnee Heights is stuck on a five-game losing streak.
