Basketball Recap: Hawthorne Piles Up the Points Against North Marion

Hawthorne entered their tilt with North Marion on Thursday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They breezed by the North Marion Colts to the tune of 76-38. The Hornets have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five matchups by 23 points or more this season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Hawthorne to victory, but perhaps none more so than De' Mya Adams, who went 8 of 10 from beyond the arc on her way to 34 points and five steals. That's the most steals Adams has posted since back in February of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Jhalea Jackson, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Hawthorne smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as North Marion only pulled down eight offensive rebounds.

North Marion's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was JAMEYA BROWN, who went 6 for 8 en route to 20 points. Another player making a difference was KANARA GORDON, who posted nine points and eight boards.

Hawthorne has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.6 points per game. As for North Marion, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 11-13.

Hawthorne and North Marion should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings. Hawthorne (ranked 107th) will meet Buchholz (ranked 221st) at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Similarly, North Marion will take on St. John Lutheran at 6:30 p.m. on January 30th up 336 places (272 vs. 608).
