League recap: Moore breaks off league-leading run for Tucson High Magnet School

Tucson High Magnet School's Donovan Moore recorded the longest rushing play in II Section V this season in his game against Mesa last week. Moore ran for 99 yards on the play and finished with 263 on the day as his team bested the Jackrabbits.

Andrew Cota and Cameron Denson provided fans with a highlight when they connected against Marcos de Niza. The connection was good for 92 yards, the longest such play in the league this season.

Cota threw for 228 yards and 2 touchdowns. He went 14-18 with 1 interception.

Moore was a beast in the backfield as Tucson High Magnet School beat Mesa.

Moore was a passing and rushing force as Justin Argraves' team defeated Kelley Moore's team. He completed 5 passes for 68 yards and also ran for 263 yards. Moore's key target this week was Bryce Coleman, who caught 2 passes for 63 yards.

Cota put up the best numbers in passing as Salpointe Catholic topped the Padres. Cota's favorite target this week was Denson, who caught 6 passes for 137 yards.

The Lancers' Cota and Denson led the league in both passing and receiving yards. Cota has thrown for 1,133 yards this season, while Denson, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 33 catches for 695 yards. Ironwood Ridge's Jake Vartanian leads the league in rushing yards with 831.

An important game coming up in II Section V this week will be when Salpointe Catholic takes on Mountain View. As it stands, Dennis Bene's team is in first, while the Mountain Lions are in fourth.

The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when the Lancers take on Mountain View. Salpointe Catholic has allowed 28 points this season, while Clarence McRae's team has given up 96. The Lancers allowed 7 points last week as they beat Marcos de Niza.

Salpointe Catholic added to the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Roy Lopez's team, 40-7. This was the team's fifth consecutive win.
