Softball Game Preview: Friendship Christian Commanders vs. Goodpasture Christian Cougars

The Friendship Christian Commanders will venture away from home to square off against the Goodpasture Christian Cougars at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

Friendship Christian's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over Ezell-Harding Christian. The result was nothing new for the Commanders, who have now won nine contests by eight runs or more so far this season.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Goodpasture Christian). They blew past Mount Juliet Christian Academy 14-1 on Tuesday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Cougars with their most commanding win of the season.

Hope Brown and Katelyn Bryant made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Brown pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Bryant tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. At the plate, Brown scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-1, while Bryant scored a run while going 2-for-4. That stolen base was Brown's first of the season.

In other batting news, Brooklyn Jones was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-3. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Laura Beth Blessing, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

Friendship Christian is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Goodpasture Christian, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-7.

Friendship Christian couldn't quite finish off Goodpasture Christian in their previous meeting back in May of 2024 and fell 9-7. Can the Commanders avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
