Booneville extended the longest winning streak in 3A Region 1 this week by beating Ripley, 33-28. The victory was the fifth in a row for the team.
Booneville and the Tigers played the most hotly contested game in the league this week, with Booneville eventually emerging with a 33-28 victory. Jack Simpson threw for 146 yards and one touchdown and ran for 128 yards in the win.
Mike Mattox's team's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Jazz Prather helped Booneville's passing attack out by catching two balls for 26 yards.
Brett Williams made the biggest impact on defense this week as Belmont bested Holly Springs. The 5-foot-7 junior recorded one fumble.
Andrew Lambert was the best wideout in the league this week as the Blue Devils beat Ripley. Lambert tallied four receptions for 105 yards.
Chad Cook's team's Cody James and Ralph Green have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading 3A Region 1 in both passing and receiving yards. James has thrown for 1682 yards this season, while Green, a 6-foot-3 receiver, has 26 catches for 481 yards. The Cardinals' Alexander Fancher leads the league in rushing yards with 1159.
The top two teams in the league will face off this week when first place Booneville takes on second place Belmont. Last week, Booneville defeated the Tigers, while Belmont topped the Hawks.
Tevin Jones of the Holly Springs is only 30 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 151 carries Jones has accumulated 970 yard this year.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Kerry Moody's team takes on the Blue Devils. The Cardinals have allowed 160 points this season, while Booneville has given up 162. Belmont allowed 21 points last week as it topped Chris Rankin's team.
The Aggies took down Alcorn Central 49-6 last week, the largest margin of any game.
