Softball Game Preview: Hamburg Hawks vs. Blue Mountain Eagles

The Hamburg Hawks will take on the Blue Mountain Eagles at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Hamburg's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They put the hurt on Antietam with a sharp 17-0 win. Winning may never get old, but the Hawks sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Meanwhile, Blue Mountain waltzed into their matchup on Wednesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. Everything went their way against the Red Raiders as they made off with a 15-0 victory.

Chloe Brown made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two hits any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI and one double. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Emmerson Frie, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Carla Boyer, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-1.

Blue Mountain was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .571. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Our Lady of Lourdes Regional only posted a batting average of .000.

Blue Mountain pushed their record up to 6-1 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for Hamburg, their win bumped their record up to 10-2.

Saturday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Hamburg hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .435. However, it's not like Blue Mountain struggles in that department as they've averaged .423. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
