Football Preview: Darrington Loggers vs. Concrete Lions
Darrington has been on the road for two straight, but on Friday they'll finally head home. They will welcome the Concrete Lions at 7:00 p.m. Both are at an even 5-5 against one another since November of 2014, but likely not for long.
Darrington is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Washington's top teams: Quilcene, who was ranked 11th in their home state at the time (Darrington was ranked 20th). Darrington was outmatched by Quilcene on the road and fell 48-8. Having soared to a lofty 50 points in the game before, the Loggers couldn't push the score so high this time.
Meanwhile, Concrete was fully in charge on Friday, breezing past Muckleshoot Tribal 64-8 at home. That looming 64-8 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Lions yet this season.
Josiah Rider continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 274 yards and five touchdowns on only seven carries. He really tore up the turf during one magnificent 75-yard run. Zach Link got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Concrete didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Link and Jakob Lofton. The dominant performance also gave Lofton a new career-high in rushing yards. Another thorn in Muckleshoot Tribal's side was Patrick Wallin, who picked up two sacks and made three total tackles (3.0 for loss).
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Concrete was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 419 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 309 rushing yards in five consecutive matchups.
Darrington now has a losing record at 3-4. As for Concrete, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 3-4 record this season.
