Football Game Preview: Mojave Rattlers vs. Somerset Academy Losee Lions

The Mojave Rattlers will face off against the Somerset Academy Losee Lions at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Somerset Academy Losee took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Mojave, who comes in off a win.

Mojave is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Friday as they easily beat Pinecrest Academy Cadence 53-0. The Rattlers' offense checked out after the first half but had enough points banked to take the game anyway.

Mojave didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Elijah Richard and Demico Zamora. Zamora is also crushing it when it comes to total tackles: he's made at least five every time he's taken the field this season. Deandre Ewings was another major factor on D, picking up two sacks and making seven total tackles (3.0 for loss).

Most of the squad's points came courtesy of special teams, who contributed 29 in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of S'Marion Coleman, who ran a punt back for a touchdown. Another bright spot was a kickoff return touchdown from Zamora.

Meanwhile, Somerset Academy Losee was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss dating back to last season. They took a 35-28 hit to the loss column at the hands of Palo Verde. The Lions gained 65 more yards on the day, but it was the Panthers that made the best use of them.

Defeat or not, Somerset Academy Losee got some senior leadership from Carl 'CJ' Sparks and Kieran Daniel. Sparks rushed for 233 yards while picking up 10.6 yards per carry, while Daniel rushed for 72 yards and three scores.

Mojave picked up their first home win, bumping their record up to 2-4. As for Somerset Academy Losee, their loss dropped their record down to 0-6.

Mojave didn't have too much breathing room in their game against Somerset Academy Losee when the teams last played back in November of 2024, but they still walked away with a 14-10 victory.
