Basketball Recap: Roxana Comes Up Short

Roxana lost against Carlyle back in January of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Roxana Shells took a 53-45 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Carlyle Indians/Lady Indians. While losing is never fun, the Shells can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 312th, while the Indians/Lady Indians are ranked 22nd).

When it comes to explaining why Roxana lost, don't look at Jake Newton. Despite the final result, he posted eight points and ten rebounds. The dominant performance gave Newton a new career-high in rebounds. Another player making a difference was Cohen Dugan, who put up eight points.

Roxana now has a losing record at 6-7. As for Carlyle, their win bumped their record up to 10-2.

Roxana will take on Richland County in a tournament on Monday. As for Carlyle, they will head out on the road to square off against Red Bud at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Carlyle is facing Red Bud at the right time seeing as Red Bud is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
