After reaching the state tournament in 2015 and losing in the semifinals, Dallas Jesuit went all the way this year, defeating Johnson (San Antonio) 6-2 for the Texas Class 6A state championship.

The win, along with a 2-0 semifinal win over Langham Creek, propelled the Rangers into the top 10 in this week's MaxPreps Xcellent 50 National Baseball Rankings presented by the Army National Guard.

Dallas Jesuit was No. 23 last week after winning the Region 2 championship. The Rangers received a shutout from Gatorade National Player of the Year Kyle Muller in the semifinals against Langham Creek - one day after Muller found out that he had been drafted in the second round of the Major League Baseball Draft by the Atlanta Braves.

In the final, The Rangers defeated Johnson, a team that advanced two spots farther than they did last season when they lost to Alexander in the Region 4 championship game. While Dallas Jesuit moves up to No. 10 in this week's rankings, Johnson is right behind at No. 11.

Two teams that were not in the rankings last week entered in the top 25 this week after winning state titles. Seton Hall Prep (West Orange, N.J.) defeated St. Augustine Prep (Richland) 4-2 for the New Jersey Non-Public A championship and entered the rankings at No. 22. Meanwhile, Providence Catholic (New Lenox, Ill.) defeated Mundelein 10-3 for the Illinois Class 4A championship. The title is the third in a row for the Celtics and puts them at No. 23 this week.

The 2016 high school baseball season concludes this week with championships decided in Connecticut, Indiana, Kentucky, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Wisconsin. Iowa will not conclude its season until late July and is not included in the Xcellent 50.
