St. Bonaventure (Ventura, Calif.) grabbed a lead in the first quarter and rode that momentum to a 56-7 win over Royal (Simi Valley, Calif.).
The Seraphs put up 21 points in the opening frame. St. Bonaventure scored on a
Zachary Green touchdown run, a
Ricky Town touchdown pass to
Richard Lucero and a touchdown run by Green.
After taking the lead on a Green touchdown run in the first quarter, SB led 42-7 at the half.
The Ventura school expanded its lead to 49 points entering the fourth quarter. The Seraphs scored two times in the third, including once on a punt return touchdown by
Mark Zavala.
River Meza played well for the Highlanders. The sophomore running back ran for one touchdown.
St. Bonaventure's most effective player was Green. The senior running back ran for three touchdowns.
Royal's lone touchdown came on a 1-yard run by Meza in the first quarter.
SB had given up an average of 16.3 points prior to the contest.
A 59-0 St. Bonaventure victory was the result when the squads faced off last season.
