Recap: Chaparral Wolverines vs. Valor Christian Eagles
On Friday, the Chaparral Wolverines faced the Valor Christian Eagles in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Chaparral took a 64-47 bruising from Valor Christian. Chaparral was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Valor Christian apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2021.
When it comes to explaining why Chaparral lost, one person who can't be blamed is Gavin Carter. Despite the final result, he scored 17 points. Carter scored a full 36.2% of Chaparral's points, the seventh time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Luke Howery was another key contributor, scoring 10 points.
Valor Christian was led to victory by Brady Wynja and Cole Scherer. Wynja scored 11 points along with 9 rebounds and 3 steals, while Scherer scored 18 points along with 6 rebounds and 5 assists. The matchup was Scherer's fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Eli Kim, who scored 12 points.
Chaparral's loss dropped their record down to 4-3. As for Valor Christian, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 5-0.
Chaparral's homestand continues as they prepare to take on Arapahoe at 1:20 p.m. on December 9th. Arapahoe will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Colorado Rankings (they are ranked 106th, while Chaparral is ranked 16th). Valor Christian will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against ThunderRidge at 3:00 p.m. on December 9th.
