Baseball Game Preview: Azusa Aztecs vs. Sierra Vista Dons

For the second straight game, Azusa will face off against Sierra Vista. The Aztecs will venture away from home to take on the Dons at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Azusa has three straight wins, Sierra Vista has five straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

While Azusa's victory against Sierra Vista wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Aztecs won by a run and slipped past the Dons 3-2.

Anthony Quezada spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on two hits and racked up six Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Matt Huizar and Terry Chavez did most of the damage at the plate: Huizar scored a run while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances, while Chavez scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-4. Chavez has become a key player for Azusa: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least three hits, but 4-6 otherwise.

Azusa always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .559. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .532 or higher in three consecutive matchups.

Azusa pushed their record up to 6-7 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Sierra Vista, their loss dropped their record down to 5-13.
