Softball Recap: Harrison Central Sets Scoring Season-High Against St. Martin

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Harrison Central). They came out on top against the St. Martin Yellow Jackets by a score of 10-7 on Thursday. The victory continues a trend for the Red Rebels in their matchups with the Yellow Jackets: they've now won three in a row.

Gabrielle Smith was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and four unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since back in February.

In other batting news, Autumn Brown was incredible, scoring two runs while going 3-for-3. Those two runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Melody Conner, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.

Harrison Central hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as St. Martin struck out eight times.

Harrison Central's win bumped their record up to 8-12. As for St. Martin, the defeat snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 11-7 record.

Coming up, Harrison Central will challenge Pearl River Central at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for St. Martin, they will take on Gulfport at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Gulfport will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something St. Martin surely won't give up without a fight.
