Softball Recap: Homestead Find Success

Homestead hadn't done well against Los Altos recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. The Mustangs came out on top against the Eagles by a score of 8-3. For the Mustangs, this counts as revenge for the 8-3 win the Eagles walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.

Mackenzie Smith spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on three hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Courtney Smith was excellent, scoring a run while going 1-for-3. What's more, she posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Leela Menon, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.

Homestead was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .407. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Los Altos only posted a batting average of .167.

The victory made it two in a row for Homestead and bumps their season record up to 5-2. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 4 runs in those games. As for Los Altos, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-7 record this season.

Homestead will challenge Wilcox at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. After both having extra time off, Los Altos and Saratoga will shake off the rust and duke it out at 4:00 p.m. on the 15th. The Falcons will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something the Eagles surely won't give up without a fight.
