Basketball Recap: Athens Academy Takes a Loss

Athens Academy played a tough matchup on Saturday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were outmatched by the Rabun County Wildcats and fell 79-45. While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 346th, while the Wildcats are ranked 81st).

Rabun County's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Huey Blalock, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 12 assists. Blalock is on a roll when it comes to assists, as he's now racked up eight or more in the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Michael Bone, who went 7 of 10 en route to 19 points and five steals.

Athens Academy moved to 9-11 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak. As for Rabun County, they pushed their record up to 17-3 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Athens Academy will venture away from home to challenge Oglethorpe County at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Athens Academy is facing Oglethorpe County at the right time seeing as Oglethorpe County is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Rabun County, they will head out on the road to face off against Elbert County at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
