Baseball Game Preview: Petersburg Vikings vs. South Harrison Hawks

The Petersburg Vikings will face off against the South Harrison Hawks at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Petersburg's pitching crew has only allowed 2.7 runs per game this season, so South Harrison's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Petersburg is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of West Virginia's top teams: Philip Barbour, who was ranked 16th at the time (Petersburg was ranked 13th). The Vikings fell 6-1 to the Colts on Thursday. The game marked the Vikings' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for South Harrison, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand St. Marys a 7-0 shutout on Thursday. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Hawks as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

South Harrison's victory bumped their record up to 12-9. As for Petersburg, their defeat ended an eight-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 11-2.

Petersburg took their win against South Harrison in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 11-1 score. Will the Vikings repeat their success, or do the Hawks have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
