Football Recap: Lakewood's Undefeated Season over After Eight Games

After some red-hot attacks on offense in their last four matchups, Lakewood finally came back down to earth on Friday. They came up short against the Cardinal Mooney Cougars, falling 35-12. The defensive woes were uncharacteristic for the Spartans, who until this game were averaging 9.75 points allowed.

Despite the loss, Lakewood still got an impressive performance from Ayden Wallace, who threw for 306 yards and a pair of touchdowns. A healthy portion of that aerial production (136 yards to be exact) went to Sanjae Green.

It was another big night for Connail Jackson, who rushed for 209 yards and four scores on only 13 carries for Cardinal Mooney. Jackson really tore up the turf during one magnificent 81-yard run. Another player making a difference was Devin Mignery, who rushed for 100 yards on only eight carries.

Having lost for the first time this season, Lakewood fell to 7-1. As for Cardinal Mooney, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 6-1.

Looking ahead, Lakewood is taking a road trip to face off against Gibbs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Spartans are facing the Gladiators at the right time seeing as the Gladiators are stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Cardinal Mooney, they will be playing at home against Monsignor Pace at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
