Basketball Recap: Aquinas Skates Past Melrose-Mindoro with Ease

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Aquinas had no problem doing just that on Friday. They took their game with ease, bagging a 66-26 victory over the Melrose-Mindoro Mustangs. The Blugolds have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 13 matchups by 21 points or more this season.

Aquinas was led to victory by Ava Fernholz and Samantha Davis. Fernholz went 7-for-9 to rack up 19 points and four steals, while Davis shot 58% from the field en route to 19 points and eight rebounds. Davis' evening made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Alaina Elias, who posted two points and three steals.

The win made it two in a row for Aquinas and bumps their season record up to 21-4. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 29.0 points on average over those games. As for Melrose-Mindoro, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 13-11.

Aquinas didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 69-50 victory against Bangor on the 1st. Melrose-Mindoro does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
