Softball Recap: Kennewick Comes Up Short

Kennewick extended their losing streak to four on Friday, dropping their season record down to 7-12 in the process. They came up short against the Richland Bombers, falling 14-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bombers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 14-0 on Friday.

Kennewick saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mayce Davis, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

As for Richland, they pushed their record up to 17-1 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home. Considering they have won 12 games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

On Richland's side, Sophia Sams and Ali Evans made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Sams tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Evans tossed four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Sams has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single walk in five consecutive appearances. At the plate, Sams went 1-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Evans went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Payton Chacon, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Brooklynn Boyce was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.

Coming up, Kennewick will take on Chiawana at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Riverhawks will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something the Lions surely won't give up without a fight. As for Richland, they will challenge Hermiston at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bombers' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bulldogs have averaged an impressive 11.8 runs per game this season.
