Recap: Calipatria Hornets vs. Holtville Vikings
The Calipatria Hornets''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their sixth straight loss. They took a serious blow against Holtville, falling 53-6. Calipatria has struggled against Holtville recently, as their game on Thursday was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.
Caleb Spence threw for 87 yards and a touchdown. Dominic Hawk was his top target, picking up 60 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Leading Holtville to victory were Alan Carrillo and Alonso Cuevas. Carrillo picked up 141 receiving yards and two touchdowns, while Cuevas threw for 224 yards and four touchdowns while completing 80% of his passes. Carrillo's longest reception was for an incredible 72 yards. Hector Sanchez was another key contributor, rushing for 56 yards and a touchdown.
Calipatria's loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 3-7. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 11.5 points per game. As for Holtville, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 7-2.
Calipatria will head out on the road to face off against Tri-City Christian at 7:00 p.m. on November 3rd. Tri-City Christian will be looking to extend their current eight-game winning streak. Holtville does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
