Basketball Game Preview: Southern Lee Cavaliers vs. Western Harnett Eagles

Southern Lee and Western Harnett are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2019, but not for long. The Southern Lee Cavaliers will take on the Western Harnett Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Western Harnett took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Southern Lee, who comes in off a win.

Southern Lee played in conference for the first time on Tuesday and they got just the result they we're looking for. They took down Hoke County 52-36. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Cavaliers as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Meanwhile, Western Harnett was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They lost to E.E. Smith on the road by a 51-32 margin. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 483rd, while the Golden Bulls are ranked 141st).

Southern Lee's victory ended a 14-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-8. As for Western Harnett, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-10.

Southern Lee strolled past Western Harnett in their previous meeting back in December of 2024 by a score of 56-37. The rematch might be a little tougher for Southern Lee since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
