Softball Game Preview: Big Sky Eagles vs. Flathead Braves/Bravettes

For the first time this season, Big Sky will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will be playing at home against the Flathead Braves/Bravettes at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Big Sky will be strutting in after a victory while Flathead will be coming in after a loss.

Big Sky's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Thursday. They were the clear victors by a 21-0 margin over Corvallis. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Eagles.

Briella Wilson made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, Big Sky got a massive performance out of Hayden Weaver, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, two runs, and one double. Another player making a difference was Irene Griswold, who scored three runs while going 3-for-3.

Meanwhile, Flathead was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat dating back to last season. They lost 9-0 to Russell.

Flathead saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Reese Conley, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one double.

Flathead's loss dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Big Sky, they pushed their record up to 2-0 with the win, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season.

Big Sky took their victory against Flathead when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 18-3. Does Big Sky have another victory up their sleeve, or will Flathead turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
