Softball Recap: Rock Island Continues Road Dominance on Thursday

Geneseo typically has all the answers at home, but on Thursday Rock Island proved too difficult a challenge. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-5 victory over the Maple Leafs. The win continues a trend for the Rocks in their matchups with the Maple Leafs: they've now won four in a row.

Lilly McDaniel made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted over her last six matches. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, AJ Lincoln was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was A'Rion Lonergan, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.

Rock Island pushed their record up to 18-8 with the victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Geneseo, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 20-8.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Rock Island will challenge Minooka at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Indians will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Rocks surely won't give up without a fight. As for Geneseo, they will take on Sterling at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
