Basketball Recap: Avery Ivey and Jordan Starkey Secure Win for Wheatmore

Wheatmore entered their tilt with Forbush on Wednesday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They came within six points of losing the streak, but they secured a 59-53 W against the Falcons.

Wheatmore was led to victory by Jordan Starkey and Avery Ivey. Starkey shot 80% from the field en route to 25 points, while Ivey almost dropped a double-double with 15 points and nine assists. Those 25 points gave Starkey a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Collin Dodd, who posted ten points.

Despite the loss, Forbush had strong showings from Mason Dudley, who almost dropped a double-double with 22 points and nine rebounds, and Matthew Bryant, who went 8-for-13 to rack up 18 points. Dudley's big performance that evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least 16 points. Tyler Bryant was another key player, putting up eight points and six boards.

Wheatmore now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Forbush, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-2.

Coming up, Wheatmore will challenge Chatham Charter at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Warriors will be up against the Knights' rather soft defense (which has allowed 53 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Forbush, they have already played their next game, a 61-51 victory against Atkins on the 4th.
