Baseball Game Preview: Williston Red Devils vs. Branford Buccaneers

The Williston Red Devils will venture away from home to square off against the Branford Buccaneers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Williston will aim to continue their four-game streak of scoring more runs each match than the last.

Williston had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the ten-run drubbing they dealt Bradford on Tuesday. The Red Devils put the hurt on the Tornadoes with a sharp 11-1 victory. The result was nothing new for the Red Devils, who have now won eight games by nine runs or more so far this season.

Meanwhile, Branford didn't have quite enough to beat Bell on Tuesday and fell 5-4.

Kyler Williamson was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3.

Williamson wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Colby Beard, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Branford's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 13-7. As for Williston, their win bumped their record up to 11-7.

Williston took their victory against Branford when the teams last played back in February by a conclusive 15-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Red Devils since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
