5A Region 2 recap Oct. 3, 2012

Viewmont was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from sixth to fourth in 5A Region 2. The Vikings defeated Taylorsville 13-3 earlier in the week.

Kearns led the league in scoring this week after putting up 53 points on West.

Hunter's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Shaun Scanlan threw for 13 yards and Noah Togiai had 13 yards receiving. On the ground Trevon Johnson chipped in 219 yards.

The Warriors' Tristinn Martinez and Emilio Salvador have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. A big matchup in 5A Region 2 this week will be when Hunter takes on the Cougars. As it stands, Scott Henderson's team is in second, while Kearns is in third.

Bill Cosper's team made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 4,098 from 4,615. The advance stemmed from a 53-27 victory over the Panthers last week.
