Baseball Game Preview: McConnellsburg Spartans vs. Windber Ramblers

The McConnellsburg Spartans are taking a road trip to square off against the Windber Ramblers at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. McConnellsburg will be strutting in after a victory while Windber will be coming in after a defeat.

McConnellsburg's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. Everything went their way against North Star as McConnellsburg made off with a 17-0 win. The Spartans have beaten the Cougars the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Cougars has come to flipping the script.

McConnellsburg got a massive performance out of Hoyt Glenn, who scored four runs and stole four bases while going 2-for-4. Those four runs gave Glenn a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Shafer Earley, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs.

Meanwhile, Windber didn't have quite enough to beat Rockwood on Tuesday and fell 5-4.

Lucas Oleksa was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs. Dawson Himes was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.

The victory got McConnellsburg back to even at 1-1. As for Windber, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 1-1.

Everything went McConnellsburg's way against Windber in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, as McConnellsburg made off with a 10-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for McConnellsburg since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
