Softball Recap: Lowell Gets the Win

Lowell took an eight-run loss the last time they faced off against Westford Academy, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Red Raiders narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Ghosts 3-2. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Red Raiders as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Maggie C was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 12 over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Those two hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Lilly S and Caraghlan T did most of the damage at the plate: S went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double, while T went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Those two RBI gave T a new career-high. Ella D was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run and one double.

Lowell now has a winning record of 10-9. As for Westford Academy, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-6 record this season.

Lowell will challenge Wilmington at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Westford Academy, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, an 8-3 defeat against Chelmsford on the 19th.
