Recap: Cheyenne Desert Shields vs. Sierra Vista Mountain Lions
The Cheyenne Desert Shields lost against the Sierra Vista Mountain Lions on January 5th, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. Cheyenne fell 60-50 to the Mountain Lions. While losing is never fun, Cheyenne can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nevada basketball rankings (they are ranked 72nd, while the Mountain Lions are ranked 12th).
When it comes to explaining why Cheyenne lost, one person who can't be blamed is Tyree Bruce. Despite the final result, he scored 17 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Bruce has scored all season. Caris Neal was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Cheyenne has not been sharp recently as the team's lost seven of their last nine matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-16 record this season. As for Sierra Vista, they pushed their record up to 16-6 with that win, which was their fifth straight at home.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cheyenne will face off against the Chargers at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Clark's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last six contests. As for Sierra Vista, they will head out on the road to take on the Archers at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
